GSE ECOTOURS

WHAT WE DO

We provide community-based tours to rural villages in Kenya. We offer responsible tourism alternatives to mass packaged holidays with travel ethos that co-operate with the local communities to improve their economy, and protect their local environments. These tours are also known as community-based homestays or visits.

Our programme enables you to explore the various fundamentals of culture. This includes language, food (preparation, storage, tools), songs (dances and music), agriculture & wildlife, tools/technology, rituals, stories, traditional medicine (healers, tools), and values. All of these attributes collectively, form an intricate web, which gives every community its identity, character, self-respect and purpose.

The visitors’ accommodation is provided by the host community in their homes or homesteads. In return the visitors are required to respect and absorb their culture as they provide some immediate economic and social benefits to these communities. Visitors thus experience and learn firsthand about the host community’s culture and their close relationship with their environment through farming, forestry and pastoralism and receive a better understanding of the principles of community-based ecotourism.
In summary, this programme creates a very unique experience of Kenya which is famous for ‘big-game safari holidays’. It enlightens the visitors’ perspective of day to day life in a rural village setting.

Creating a Difference
As a company committed to the principles of sustainability, we ensure that the host communities whom we have helped established the Mukuru Conservation Trust, receive proper economic benefit from the tourism operation. The local inhabitants are remunerated for their work in the operation. In addition they are trained in all the different areas related to socially and ecologically responsible tourism.

Your visit will help encourage the villagers to support responsible ecotourism as a viable alternative to sustainability rather than surrendering to the disparaging practices of commercial farming. Your visit will provide an important income which will reinforce and promote the long term conservation of their cultural identity and their nurturing environment.
